Night Before Surgery

The night prior to your surgery, it is very important to follow the guidelines below. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in your surgery being cancelled.

Important Instructions

In preparation for your upcoming procedure at Black Hills Surgical Hospital, we have a few important reminders:

  • No food or drink after midnight. However, you may drink ONLY water and Gatorade until two hours prior to your  arrival at BHSH, unless otherwise instructed. Not following these guidelines may cause your ase to be cancelled. This is for your safety.
  • No hard candy, chewing tobacco, gum, smoking, or vaping after midnight. Not following these guidelines may cause your case to be cancelled.
  • Take medications prior to surgery exactly as directed by nurse or pharmacist
  • You are required to have an adult drive you home at discharge and stay with you for 24 hours after anesthesia
  • If you are spending the night, please bring your prescription medication to the hospital-Including Albuterol (Inhaler) and Proair (Inhaler), however, please leave vitamins and narcotics at home
